Mouseheart book one

Mouseheart by Lisa Fiedler

Genre: Animal, action, adventure

Series: Mouseheart

Age: MG

POV: 3rd person

Summary: Hopper is a pet store mouse who escapes and into the subway tunnels of New York. Alone and Separated from his sibling. Hopper meets a rat name Zucker who takes him to the city of Atlantia. Soon Hopper is intertwin in a game of politics and war.

Review:  Remains me of Redwall with the fighting warriors. Tales of Despereaux because it about a little mouse trying to be brave in a big world. Finally, The Rats of NIMH is the only other book I have read where the rats and mice are not at odds with each other and both are quite intelligent.

Main Characters:

Hopper: A mouse that trying to find himself in the world. Soon shown to be breve.

Zucker: I can’t help but think this is the German word for sugar. A prince that doesn’t like royalty.

The ‘chosen one’ trope is play around with. It not at the center of the story. Hopper is supposedly the ‘chosen one’ but, his sister wants to be the ‘chosen one’. Little bit of a twist.

Characters: 5/5 – Hopper is a bit neve of who to trust. The story does a good job confusing the lines of good and bad.

Plot: 4/5

Writing: 4/5 - Didn’t start out good but, it did improve.

Total: 13/20
