Interview with the Vampire

Interview with the Vampire Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

Author: Ann Rice

Genre: Paranormal

Age: YA, Adult

POV: Switch between 3rd and 1st person

Series: The Vampire's Chronical

Summary: In a darkened room a young man sits telling the macabre and eerie story of his life - the story of a vampire, gifted with eternal life, cursed with an exquisite craving for human blood.

Review: Vampires are seen as cruel and will drink human blood but, they are written to where you can synthesize towards them. At first, Louis tries to hold on to his humanity by not drinking human blood and trying to form a relationship with a woman

The characterization and relationship between each character are done well. The relationship between Lestat and Louis is I am lonely, and I need you but, I hate you. Claudia wants to find other vampires and the answers to where vampires come from. Louis is rather weak minded, giving in to what Lestat and Claudia want. I understand he doesn’t want to be alone and, he feels bad for Claudia. All of these characters want to belong. They fear living forever alone.

The writing switches between 3rd person in which the scenes of the interviewer known as “the boy” and 1st person in which Louis tells his life’s story. For the most part, I like the writing. All those at times, it goes on for quite a while. It soon started to drag at the end. Part of that is just me not feeling like reading and taking a long time to read this book.
